September 21, 2007 Post subject: Olu Deniz/Fethiye Turkey
I am going to Olu Deniz in mid october. I have just qualified as open water diver and am looking to gain some more experience whilst on holiday in Olu Deniz nr Fethiye in Turkey. I should be grateful for any advice or information on diving in the area - what companies are good/bad what the water conditions are likely to be like etc.

Hi,
Having dived Olu Deniz several times, I can say for a beginner you should be fine - hardly any currents etc. to struggle with. The best diving company in the area is Lykia World (a PADI 5 star Gold Palm center), which is a private resort based to the left handside of Olu Deniz beach. They have some exclusive house reef dives plus run a daily boat execursion. They can provide all the equipment needed too. I have dived with other too such as DiveMed and EDC all based in the resort however Lykia World have prooved to be the best.
Conditions wise the water temperature will be about 20-25 degrees this time of year, so you will be wanting at least a 5mm long suit. The visibilty in July of this year was about 10-15m. Marine line is typical med with a mix of wrasse, rays, octopus, morrays, etc. No reefs, however quite a few interesting cave dives.
Don't expect the Red Sea in Turkey, however it is a nice little place to have a holiday and dive on the site, instead of simply having a dive holiday.
